Raise money for Recovery Housing with Nick's Run for Recovery!

It’s time for our 2nd Annual “Nick’s Run for Recovery”, to be held in downtown Marquette. This 5k is being held to bring awareness to the ever growing problems that are Substance Use Disorder and mental health in our area and is held in honor of the late Nicholas Suardini.

Funds raised at last year’s run assisted in the purchase of our Fisher St. location, which is working towards becoming a MARR Level 2 Recovery House. Funds from this fun run/walk will be used similarly to purchase more sober living homes by Superior Connections RCO to bridge gaps in our area between the public and resources. And continue to grow recovery opportunities in our community.

My brother, Nick, passed away three years ago due to mental health and substance abuse struggles. I, being someone who was on the same path, decided to get sober and use my life experience to help others. I am currently the Program Supervisor at our Baraga St. Men’s Recovery Home and a Peer Recovery Coach to those in need. My family and I wish that Nick would have had the opportunity to be entered into a sober living home, but the number of those struggling with substance abuse greatly outweighs the number of available sober living beds in our community. Even worse yet, some will go to treatment and slip through the cracks upon release due to lack of safe support. Although Nicholas struggled with these demons; he was the most kind hearted, empathetic, and funny person I’ve ever had the pleasure of loving. We hope that this run and his memory can leave a lasting impact on the community; using experience and shared strength to give hope to those in need.

This year’s run will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 and will follow the same 5k route as last year; beginning at the bell tower at Lower Harbor and following the bike path along the lake just past Picnic Rocks Park before returning to the bell tower to finish.

Last minute registration will begin at 9:00am May 18, 2024 at Elizabeth's Chop House, cost is $40. Pre-registration check-in will be held at Elizabeth’s Chop House at 9:15am; participants will receive local resource information, a race number, & Nick’s run merch (including a T-shirt). Participants will then make their way to the bell tower for a word from Nick’s sister, the organizer of this event, Sarah Suardini before our event begins. We supply light refreshments and snacks about halfway through the run to participants.

There are currently no tickets available for this event. Please check back later.
